Date: Wed 27th September 2023 Time: 6.30 to 8.30 p.m

Location: Indian Summer restaurant

 Introduction

Anaesthesiologists are key players when it comes to providing advanced life support in hospital setups. Hence, it is vital for them to keep up-to-date on resuscitation science while maintaining their practical skills. This Workshop provides an opportunity for Anaesthesiologists to have an overview of latest AHA resuscitation guidelines, with a view to improving the quality of care delivered in hospitals.

 Course content:

1- Overview of current resuscitation care in Mauritius and its challenges

2- Overview of the 2020 American Heart Association (AHA) BLS and ACLS guidelines

3- Update on high-quality BLS

4- Demonstration of an ACLS ‘megacode’

 Overview:

This workshop will assist attendees in the discussion and reflection on why it is vital to deliver evidence-based resuscitation care. Use of simulation mannikins and interactive technologies will be demonstrated.

Clinical scenarios and technology will be used to demonstrate the required standard of care to maximize the chance of survival during resuscitation care delivery. The session will be interactive: attendees will have the opportunity to participate actively during the practical and simulation exercises. The latter will include highly-effective chest compression/ventilation techniques as well as appropriate use of emergency drugs. The importance of leadership, dynamic teamwork and high-performance will be demonstrated through the simulation of a full mega code blue ACLS scenario.

Overall, the workshop will enable each participant to reflect on their own clinical practices in their respective clinical work areas and evaluate their life support skills.
